Pesto is our very special little girl that somehow ended up growing into a moose. She was born here in 2004 to a PMU mare named Ash-Lee. She had a rough start and much of the first couple months were plagued with kidney issues. She outgrew the difficulties and you'd never have known she had ever been ill. Pesto went off to school and learned how to drive and pull. We use her for dragged paddocks and pulling logs for firewood. She is never far from her best friend Abe.
Squirrelwood said goodbye to our wonderful old Abe in late July 2015.
Abraham is the grand patriarch of SES. He is reaching his mid 20's and is a very special member of our sanctuary herd. He came to us in 2007 from a direct to slaughter pen outside New Holland PA. We battled the canker in his feet and he has bloomed here. From a over worked old Amish work horse to Pesto's best friend and disciplinarian.
Pesto would love sponsors to help with her upkeep and special needs. Pesto was diagnosed with an extra cheek tooth that is causing a long standing impaction. Due to the high risk of surgery with a horse of her size we treat conservatively with antibiotics when she has flare ups. We keep a Pesto Medical Fund to save for this continuing expense.
